trooping the colour

Trooping the colour is a ceremony which is always celebrated on a saturday in June :
it marks the Queen's birthday

Queen Elizabeth was actually born on 21 April 1926 (she turned 82) but as good weather is more likely in the summer, the ceremony always takes place in June
It is broadcast on TV but the best place to stand to see the celebration is along the Mall and from St James's Park, if you haven't applied on time for the seated stands.
You'll see the regiments parading, the Queen riding in her horse-drawn carriage inspecting the troops and finally, the Queen will join other members of the Royal Family on the balcony at Buckingham Palce to admire the Royal Air Force flying past
The Queen has never missed the celebration, except once, because of a strike by the National Rail workers
